@the bachelorette... i guess i missed the estrogen train everyone else piled on, because (click here)

@the "f" word... what do you even mean? you're silly & half-witted & i don't appreciate you littering my world.

@university of utah... you should let us know whether or not we're in the architecture program for sure or not so we can get this train moving. please?

@caffeine free diet coke... i don't usually drink soda, but when i do, i drink a whole 2 liter in a couple days. with lime.

@anonymous commenters... you guys are sly. the more i learn around online internet "flaming" and the correlation of not claiming your name and your opinions, the more (click here)

@my dear, sweet uterus... please stop. the endless torment of having my period every 2 weeks for 7 months is becoming overwhelming. please don't make me chastise you.. or go back to the gyno.

@mondays... okay, so i take it back. you're not so bad after all. i like FHE and banana splits with my nicholas.

@my hair on my head... this is war. makeover war. @blog.... see previous mention.

@all of you... i like you and i value your opinion. is a trip to New York better than a trip to a California beach?

@bed and all fluffiness involved... hello you wonderful thing you.

fools, it's friday. FRI. DAY.
i finished my design class last night.. it's done! no more commuting to school for the rest of the summer!
(insert GIF of victory dance.)

say hello to studying at the pool, having an extra 5 hours in the day to do things, summer nights, and lots and LOTS of quality time with my dog and my cameras.

i'm putting together a FAQs page. i generally just throw it all out there with little questions left about me and my life, but if you have anything you've ever wanted to ask me or are dying to know, feel free to ask away. i promise i'll answer... but please, be nice!  i'm also doing a post dedicated to questions people have asked and i haven't answered. so fun....

and if nobody has any questions for me... well, i guess that's fine as well. i'm kiiiinda boring.

love you, and you, and you!

p.s. just downloaded the VSCO cam.... OB.SESSED. (instagram killed the camera star.)

weekend crepes

6 comments:

this morning it was crepe time. they are easy and sweet and buttery and just delicious for a special breakfast.
& here's how we made ours:

We found the recipe on AllRecipes.com here. Pretty basic.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

1. Whisk flour and eggs, slowly add milk and water, then add butter and salt. It will be runny, so don't freak out. it's just how it's supposed to be.

2. Take a frying pan and put it on medium-low heat on the stove. (I put mine in between the 3 and the 4.)
melt butter in it until there's enough to coat the bottom of the pan.

3. Pour about 1/4 cup of batter into the pan. swirl it around until the crepe batter covers the area of the bottom of the pan.

4. Cook on medium-low heat until the bottom is stiff enough to lift off without tearing. Flip it over and cook the other side until it appears to be all done.

5. then load it with a bunch of stuff. we picked bananas, cool whip and chocolate syrup this morning.

6. dust it with some powdered sugar (if you so desire) and put it in your face. mmm, tasty tasty! and i promise.. if i can cook it, so can you.

happy crepe eating!

on being an artist

(in the process of a shadow portrait // the makings of an 18th century painting.)

i'm convinced that when you're a kid you know exactly what you want to do with your life.
it's growing up that changes our minds and makes us shy away from our passions to do what is "popular" or "makes the most money."
i wanted to be an artist. well, i mean, i wanted to be a dentist, a paleontologist, a mermaid, a rock star, a kindergarten teacher, a ballerina, a fashion designer, and a mommy/wife also. (but who says i don't still want to be those things?)

there's just something about fresh pencils, eraser shavings, line shapes, colors, having all of your stuff spread out over the desk and becoming so consumed in your work that you're bent completely over with your face pratically smudging the paper. you know? where you don't notice that it's been three hours since you started & where you're so completely enthralled with what you're doing that nothing else matters in the whole world and you just feel alive?

oh, it's just fantastic.

anything i'm creating, either on the computer or on paper or through my camera lenses or in my head, it's the creating that makes me fall in such deep love with art.

i'm so so glad that i finally decided to follow my passions in school. i get so excited about new artists or ideas, concepts, and techniques. constantly, oh constantly i get these "ah-HA!" moments where it just clicks and something i've thought about design deep down in my soul is fine-tuned and brought into the light. almost like i've always known it but it's finally being stored in my head as a solid fact. like, "OH, that's why i do that. OH that's why i think like that."

i would be perfectly content working at my own desk on design projects, eating day old hamburgers for the rest of my life. (add a couple of adorable babies into the equation and i'd be set for eternity.)

let it be written; let it be done!

butt-kicking.

this week was an epic battle between school and i.

it started off nice enough; a painting due monday, 2 papers due on tuesday, research due on thursday, a truffle contest in design, biology homework, portrait drawing, an illustrator vector due friday night.

common things.

and then i realized that i work full time and have a 2 hour commute every day and also need to slip in eating and sleeping somewhere.

so i put on my big girl panties and i faced the world head on.
besides, who really needs sleep?

V I C T O R Y.

i did it- i made it to the weekend!
i have such a powerful look on life, like "yeah take it world, i OWN you."
but at the same time i've been served a big old slice of humble pie when i realize i haven't done it alone.
no, my friends, i haven't.

"Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things;..."

nick's birthday is tomorrow- he's quite old.

have a great weekend!
